Macro Elements PowerPoint

Over the Summer break I created a power point on the macro elements of film form and the theories that can be applied to them. There were some Theories that I struggled to understand, however after watching online videos of them, I understood better.

‘Where have I been all your life?’   ‘Where have I been all your life’ is a short film that follows Liam’s journey to find his biological father and tell him that he is his son.   The film is part of the comedy genre. I followed Steve Neale's theory of repetition and difference to keep the audience interested, and yet still conform to the comedy genre. The short film conforms to the comedy genre through the use of Liam’s continuous awkward comments in a serious situation. For example, ‘you da man!’ when he has just told John that he is his son. By including this it means that this film conforms to the comedy genre, and gives a sense of familiarity to the audience. The short film also subverts from the genre. I did this in order to make sure the film was unique to other comedy films. I did this by including the dramatic twists of the plot, such as Liam going to the wrong house. Course Work- Sound Application

The non-diegetic sound that I will include will be music in the background. This music will change  along with the mood. I will do this to empathise the emotions more. For example, I could put a slow, sombre piece of piano music in where the documentary looks at how hard it was without an assistance dog. Then later on I will use a more happy, upbeat piece of music when it is being reflected on the positive impact an assistance dog has had.  After watching lots of short documentaries I realised that most of them work well with a narration over the top. So I may also include this during archive footage. Or I may include the audio from the interview part of my documentary, then the cutting between both shots will be smoother.  I may also include times of complete silence where she is reflecting on a difficult time. Course Work- Character Profile and Casting Choices

My documentary is about a young woman who suffers from Cerebral Pals y. She has recently been   given an assistance dog and it has greatly improved her life.  I had thought about using Jess' story, but having an actress playing her. However, I felt that my documentary would be more truthful, and genuine if Jess was herself.
