Short Documentary Research

Before going and filming my documentary I thought I would do some research on Cerebral Palsy and assistance dogs. In doing this I can increase my knowledge in the subject area and avoid creating a documentary on something that I have no knowledge about.


Cerebral palsy (CP) - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment & pathology:
This video gave detailed information about Cerebral Palsy, why it happens, its symptoms and treatment. From This video I learnt that:
  • Cerebral Palsy is an umbrella term to cover a wide variety of issues.
  • The majority of Cerebral Palsy cases are thought to happen prenatally.
  • It is a non-progressive disease
  • There are three different types of Cerebral Palsy; Spastic, Dyskinetic, Ataxic .  
  • It is not cureable, but can be treated.

I plan to add a narration talking about cerebral palsy  and when Jess was diagnosed with it. Here is a rough version of the narration:  Jess,24, suffers from cerebral palsy. She was diagnosed at the age of???. Cerebral palsy is a group of lifelong conditions that affect a person’s movement and co-ordination. Ideas for my final film

First Idea- The Effects of Anxiety One idea that I have is to create a short film on anxiety, and how it effects different people. One way I could do this could be through the eyes of someone with anxiety and how it prevents them from doing daily tasks.  I could also do this through having a physical creature or person that symbolises someone's anxiety.  I could go about this by interviewing people anxiety, and how it effects their everyday life.  I watched a few of videos to get some inspiration for a short film on anxiety.  What Having Anxiety Feels Like This was a video including the narration of a sufferer from anxiety. She tells us about all the physical symptoms she experiences, and yet doesn't notice. She also uses metaphors and similes, such as 'My anxiety feels like fire.', to describe how she feels on a daily basis.  It also includes black and white footage.
