Midpoint exam coursework - 'The Wait'

'The Wait'

  • For our midpoint we were given a stimulus for our short film. Mine was ; three friends waiting.
  • I decided that the genre of my film would be horror. I created tension  through the few moments where their friend has stopped talking on the phone. 
  • What I really like about this short film was the use of a cyclical structure; its started and finished with a shot of the house with birdsong. This gave it the effect that nothing seemed to had changed. the rest of the world hasn't notice what just took place, so the world just carries on. 
  • A way in which I could have improved the short film would have been to work on the sound. because it was a windy day the dialogue was a little hard to hear. I could have fixed this by re-receding the audio inside. 
  • To make the film more intersesting I could have had a few shots of their friend inside the house on the phone, so it would add to the effect of the film starting off seemingly normal. It would also then involve two different settings, so the audience doesn't get bored of one.

Ideas for my final film

First Idea- The Effects of Anxiety One idea that I have is to create a short film on anxiety, and how it effects different people. One way I could do this could be through the eyes of someone with anxiety and how it prevents them from doing daily tasks.  I could also do this through having a physical creature or person that symbolises someone's anxiety.  I could go about this by interviewing people anxiety, and how it effects their everyday life.  I watched a few of videos to get some inspiration for a short film on anxiety.  What Having Anxiety Feels Like This was a video including the narration of a sufferer from anxiety. She tells us about all the physical symptoms she experiences, and yet doesn't notice. She also uses metaphors and similes, such as 'My anxiety feels like fire.', to describe how she feels on a daily basis.  It also includes black and white footage.
